Scootopia made Lambretta DL/GP (or any models using a DL GP Crank) Variable electronic kit. This kit consists of a Flywheel with plastic fins, Stator Plate, Flywheel Nut & Washer, CDI, Regulator, Fitting Tool & loom with connectors.

Some characteristics of the kit:

  •          2.2Kg 2 Part flywheel (standard length plastic fins).
  •          Optional DC output.
  •          Removable HT lead from CDI.
  •          9 Stud centre boss.
  •          Correct electrical connectors fitted.

 

Like both the SIP Vape kit, Casatronic & Varitronic our variable electronic kits give your engine an advance or retard timing set up. This allows the ignition timing to adjust at high or low revs resulting in a better performing engine. We have set a weight of approx. 2.1kg for the flywheel, this should run well using the Scootopia 185 kit and the Scootopia Clubman Exhaust. You also have the option of using a DC output, allowing you to charge up your phone, e cigarette or run a Sat Nav. We have also added an extra centre boss stud on the flywheel giving it 9 studs for extra strength.


SCOOTOPIA VARIABLE ELECTRONIC INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

 

Tools Needed:

  • 8mm socket (Fan Cover Bolts).
  • 10mm socket (Stator Bolts).
  • 17mm socket (Flywheel Nut).
  • 19mm socket (most flywheel pullers).
  • Torque Wrench (for flywheel nut, 50-55 ft lbs.)
  • TDC Tool (if you want to double check timing).
  • Timing Disc (if you want to double check timing).
  • Timing Light (if you want to double check timing).

 

Contents of your Variable Electronic Ignition Kit box:

  • Stator attached to backing plate with wiring.
  • Rotor with Fan attached.
  • CDI with HT Lead (HT Lead can be unscrewed and changed if ever needed).
  • Regulator / Rectifier.
  • Red Battery feed wire (with Ring and Spade connector).
  • Flywheel Nut with Washer.
  • Spanner (extended).
  • HT Cap.


 

  Help with Fitment:


Remove old flywheel and stator

Install new stator plate, making sure not to pinch stator wires behind the backing plate, and holding the wiring safely back from the flywheel with the Internal Mag Wiring Plate.

Line the timing marks up on the upper left mounting hole to the timing you desire (see 4. Below) and tighten the 3 stator bolts down.
        
Timing marks from bottom to top, allow for 19, 22, 25, 28 and 31 degrees. For most standard engines, or those with mild upgrades (big bore, Scootopia 185, etc), 24/25 degrees should be more than adequate.  Higher performance engines (those kits that require expansion chambers for example) will require setting to 19 degrees.
     
Make sure you have a good condition woodruff key installed, if in doubt, replace it
     
 Install flywheel, flywheel nut washer and flywheel nut, torque flywheel nut down to 50 – 55 ft lbs.
      
Connect the stator wiring up to your CDI and Regulator. The connectors and wire colouring are designed to match Scootopia Electronic Wiring Harness and those models still using original wiring harness (although you will need a Scootopia 12V Round Junction Box to do so).
      
Connect the Black and Green (in their own section of sheath) to the CDI. The Green has an extra tab so you can connect the green from your Electronic loom. If you are using an original loom, you will need to put a spade connector on the single Green wire so it feeds back through to your kill switch. There is an isolated plug in the 12V Junction Box that you can plug your original double green into.
   
Connect the Red, Double Black and Brown with piggyback Brown extension (also in their own sleeve) to the Regulator. The Red is the feed for your DC / Battery circuit, Brown is the feed for the AC power, and the Double Blacks are grounds. In your Variable Electronic Ignition Kit box, there is another single Red wire, with a spade connector on one end, and a ring connector on the other – this wire is for the DC feed from the Regulator to your DC circuit.
 
The wires to the CDI are easy to identify which goes to which connector, there is a large female spade connector on the Green and a small female spade connector on the Black, which match up to large and small male connectors on the CDI. Green goes to large, Black to small.
 
The wires to the Regulator/Rectifier are connected, from left to right, with the bump in the middle, facing away from you (and the 1, inside the connector block, on the right), Red (to Battery), Red (from Stator), Black (from Stator), Brown with piggyback Brown (from Stator).

Make sure you have 12V light bulbs installed. You can reuse your speedo bulb, because on original 6V system the speedo bulb was 12v 3w.
